5 Questions with Follow Friday Picks for ’09…Ramble

2009 was a tough year for a lot of us, one we are happy to bid farewell. 2009 for me was also full of a rebirth of deeper connections and a return to being a ‘good friend’ as opposed to an absent workaholic friend. I finished the first draft of a novel (edit process is underway) , visited family and friends in LA, Peru, Chicago, Conneticut and Canada, and started to think about all the interesting people I know and how lucky it makes me.

I'm following you on twitter

2009 was also the year that Twitter exploded past the digital geek realm into mainstream pop culture as every celebrity now saw it as a way to self-promote their brand. Some did it well like The King of Twitter, Ashton @aplusk Kutcher who landed on the cover of tech mags, while others like P. Diddy annoyed us or Mariah Carey didn’t realize that a tweet is meant to be a self-contained stand alone message of 140 characters. If you post like it’s a continued blog (hello Margaret Cho I’m talking to you), it is a shot in the dark that your users are going to see or care to read the entire thing.

A few months ago, I decided to express in more than 140 characters why I follow people on Twitter by asking them 5 questions about their careers and interests. Here’s a look back and a big thank you to all of them for being so gracious and answering my questions:

Erin Quill aka @equill Eurasian Actress Extraordinaire

Bad Ass Betty Lin aka @blinblin100 who will always beat you & me at Darts!

Brian Tuft aka @brianistuft a twentysomething fashionista

Adam B aka @adamsworldblog music journo & hip hop specialist

Courtney Smith aka @courtneysmith — no she’s not James Bond but she is music indie specialist

Team Zandl aka @Zandlgroup who keep us all abreast of trends

Doro aka @ruffian a cool-as-anything-sweetheart who heads up digital at a label

Mara Altman aka @MaraAltman author, controversial writer & hummus expert

Jeffrey Kroitsch aka @jrjeffrey Fabulist!

Shoshi aka @Shoshi a modern courtisane who makes life luscious

and finally B-bop aka @basemwasef writer, photographer & motoring enthusiast.

Thank you to all of you wonderful people who have enriched my life. Happy New Year! xx Grrlgenius

  1. Wow! You get around. I certainly relate, as I grew up in Argentina and have in-laws who live there, and a son who works in England and I have in-laws there. Plus I have in-laws on my wife’s side who live in Italy. I get around as much as I can, but not as much as I would like. If no one objects, I would like to introduce my new release, Angela 1: Starting Over, the first in a series of three set in a coastal Texas high school. I have also written the second and, like you, it awaits editing. Best wishes on your project. To learn more about mine, just click on my name and follow the link to my website. Thanks!
